Specialized SCS hubs
If you are the owner of a Specialized Crux, Diverge or Roubaix (and Venge) you may by now be aware of the Specialized SCS wheel system used on these models to improve the chainline by shifting the cassette inboard by 2.5mm. This was developed by Specialized to make sure the gears shifted as best as possible in a disc bike using road groupsets. The downside was they released the bikes to market without telling any aftermarket parts suppliers (Chris King, DT Swiss or Hope for example) of the new specification (which is unique to them) and so as wheel builders we started to get requests for wheels for Specialized SCS bikes and we could not find a hub to fit. This was somewhat baffling to me. Click here to see the wheel build.
If you own a top of the range Specialized Crux cyclocross bike I would be confident to bet you a fiver you plan to go racing. And cyclocross racers have multiple pairs of wheels. In fact, they have a bad wheel habit needing multiple treads for different conditions. One of the main benefits of a thru bolt disc bike was that it is meant to be easy to swap wheels quickly. So how many Crux owners unboxed their new bike only to find it had a proprietary hub system and no options to swap in their existing wheel collection or order new ones. Surely someone somewhere at Specialized had to have sat down at lunchtime one day and thought it through – surely?
Well, good news at last. Hope have released a Specialized SCS specific hub in a 24 spoke straight pull 11 speed Shimano freehub. So here at Strada we can now build a pair of SCS ready wheels for your machine with a variety of quality clincher or tubular rims in alloy or carbon to suit your requirements at a competitive price point. Key Features
- Sealed Stainless Steel cartridge bearings.
- Hub shell machined from forged aluminium billet.
- Standard 6 bolt disc fitting.
- 12mm axle x 135mm width.
Due to the unique rear frame design on Specialized SCS bikes we have produced a dedicated hub. The hub body has been reduced by 2mm to keep a perfect chainline, unlike many aftermarket solutions. The hub is then mated with specific 12mm through axle endcaps to suit the 135mm dropout. A matching 12mm through axle front SP24 hub is also available now.
