Mavic Open Pro Exalith | maybe in 2018?

++UPDATE – I do not expect to hear any news until Eurobike or Interbike in August 2018++

I advise you to register an interest in advance with Strada the hand built wheel specialists. If / when they they arrive will be building them with a variety of quality road hubs.  Note: I will not be selling these rims individually (loose).

Mavic Open Pro Exalith rims | Mavic is (maybe) introducing an updated line of one of its most popular products, the aluminum Open Pro road rim with an Exalith coating. First introduced in 1986, the Open Pro has been a standby product for many wheelbuilders.

The newest Open Pro rims are now UST tubeless compatible and are wider, with 19mm internal width which is 4mm wider than the previous version. They feature an S.U.P. welded joint and stainless steel spoke eyelets. They are available in disc brake and rim brake versions and weigh 420 grams.

Most notably, the Mavic Open Pro Exalith moves from the traditional double walled box section rim shape to a more modern ISM4D profile. That of course is Mavic’s proprietary machining technique that is said to optimise the rim shape for lightweight strength and is the reason for the distinctive wavy design.

New 2017 Mavic Open Pros will be available in three versions – disc brake specific without a brake track and two rim brake specific rims (one maybe with Exalith treatment) or as a standard UB Control rim as well. All three have a wider 19mm internal width with a UST Tubeless certification. Tubeless is achieved with rim tape so that the rims can be easily built with standard spokes and nipples. Sticking with tradition, the rim uses a S.U.P. (Soudé Using Process) welded joint and stainless eyelets to achieve a rim weight of 420g. Each rim will be available in 24, 28 and 32h drillings. The disc brake rims have asymmetric spoke drillings.

The Exalith rims will retail for XXX euros each while the UB Control and disc brake rims retail for 70 euros (£65 GBP).
