Josh is a young rider currently based in Brittany riding in the tough regional races to gain experience. Strada are pleased to have supplied Josh with a pair of Archetype training wheels for the winter. Here is Josh’s report:
For those of you that don’t know I’m Josh Lawless and was an international triathlete before making the successful switch to cycling 2 years ago. In my first season, 2012, I impressed a few people with my results and rapid rise up the rankings and categories, as a result I was advised to apply for the John Ibbotson Fund, an organisation that raises money for the charity C.R.Y. as well as sending couple of young riders each year to Brittany with their support. Luckily I was one of the chosen two and so spent about 8 months racing for a good regional team in Hennebont. I had a fantastic time with some decent results and so I am going back out there next year, initially with the same team, before I make the big leap to either UCI Contiental level or Division Nationale 1 France, either part way through the season or at the end. This would not be possible without the correct backing and fortunately the guys at Strada Wheels believe in me and my potential and are trying to aid me in any and every way they possibly can.
The past month or so has just been a few steady rides with some hard turbo sessions with my new coach, Paul Mill (Elite Cycling) and just trying to get as much stuff in place as soon as possible for when I start training in earnest, within the next fortnight and for when I get out to France, around February 2014. I have received my lovely training wheels courtesy of Strada, the H Plus Son Archetypes as well as having received two new bikes, the Aprire Vincenza 5.0 from my sponsor Aprire and the Felt F95. I’ve had a weekend get together with Maggy Backstedt recently and some top Italian coaches who gave me and Paul Mill brilliant advice and information so now I’m just looking forward to taking it all out on my Strada Wheels! I must say based on the quality of the H Plus Son Archetypes I am really looking forward to getting Strada’s very own carbon fibre wheels which I got to see at The Cycle Show at Birmingham, can’t wait to ride up Plumelec hill on them… The H Plus Son Archetypes I have really put through their paces already, particularly when I had to race up Box Hill all day as part of an advert I am in for Maxifuel, as well as the regular rubbish Kent and Surrey country lanes, who needs cobbles when there are potholes hey?!
Until next time, ciao, Josh
