Lizzy Brama has been in Hawaii preparing for the Ironman World Championships and is using a 58 + 88 wheelset from Strada. We are always pleased to see our wheels out there being raced. Here is here first report.
“I’m been on the big island of Hawaii for the Ironman world championship since Thursday the 29th of September. On Sunday I had a first chance to test out the 58/88 Strada wheel combo in the infamous cross winds at Hawi. I knew that they handled pretty well from the ESCA 25 mile time trial earlier in the September where we had a decent dose of wind in the Sussex, but the insidiousness of the Hawaiian winds is the gustiness and that hadn’t been present on the day of the time trial. So we set of in motorised transport to the bike course turnaround from where we then had a chance to ride back to Kona. The winds were probably moderately strong, so I was happy that I would get a good test out of the ride. The 30 km or so coming from Hawi are predominantly straight and downhill and thus it very much big ring and aerobar territory. A lot of fun if it’s not for cross winds. But I was in for a surprise. At no point did I feel the need to change to holding on the base bar to achieve better handling of the bike, I simply leant a bit to the side when the wind blew, while a lot of other riders where holding onto the brakes. Race day will be a blast if this ride is anything to go by, and I’m certainly a very happy triathlete with Jonathan letting me have the wheels for the race!”
