Tour de France Stage 3 | Cobblestones

Thor, Cadel and Geraint in the decisive move on Stage 3.

After yesterdays great ride by Chavanel and go slow by the peloton stage 3 was really exciting. Tour de France stage 3 ran over sections of Belgian cobblestones known as pave into France. Usually reserved for the Spring Classic Paris – Roubaix (aka the Hell of the North) it was designed to, and did, break up the general classement (GC) riders and keep it interesting in the first week traditionally the battleground of the sprinters. The pave is terribly difficult and physically demanding to ride over and favours the sturdier riders who can cope with the vibration from the uneven surface. Great performance by Geraint Thomas of Team Sky and GB national champion up with the leaders at the finish line. Photo by TDWSport.com
